Capitan Suizo

Will close on September 20th for in-depth maintenance throughout the property and plans to reopen on October 25th, 2025, with the inauguration of its new rooms.

The major structural work has already been completed, and the team is currently focused on final details. They anticipate the entire project—including the new beachfront units—will be finished by October 25th, 2025, in time for the reopening.

This expansion will introduce 8 new rooms and a yoga studio to Capitan Suizo, including 6 beachfront suites and 2 superior rooms.

Although new rooms are being added, the hotel assures that the overall quality of service and access to public spaces will not be compromised. Four rooms were demolished to make space for the expansion, and only eight new rooms are being added, resulting in a net increase of just four rooms.

Additionally, the new beachfront units will include private jacuzzis, and two of the rooms will be fully wheelchair accessible.

Flor Blanca Santa Teresa has announced that the property has been sold and, effective immediately, will no longer operate as a public hotel.

Villa Lapas Hotel

Ceased operations on May 30, 2025, and will reopen in January 2026 under its new name: Santa Lucia Jungle Hacienda.

Olas Verdes

Due to improvement works on the facilities, the hotel will be closed from September 29 to October 10, 2025.

Annual Low Season Closure at Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge

The Lodge will carry out its scheduled annual closure for the low season. The property will be closed from October 1 to November 15, 2025. This planned closure will allow for necessary improvements and provide a well-deserved break for the team.

In October 2025, as part of its annual maintenance, Aguila de Osa Hotel will be temporarily closed to carry out scheduled improvement works on its facilities.

  • Closure dates: October 1–31, 2025
  • Reopening: November 1, 2025

Updates in the Costa Rican hospitality industry

Tabacon Thermal Resort & Spa begins a new chapter with Pursuit. Tabacon has been acquired by Pursuit. The hotel announces that the resort’s administrative and commercial structure will remain unchanged, ensuring operational continuity and respect for its organizational culture. Pursuit has recognized in Tabacon a unique experience, aligned with its values and with its commitment to offering authentic, natural destinations deeply connected to the local culture.

D Sabana Hotel has joined Marriott International, allowing them to offer comfortable and high-quality experience, with the elevated standards and exclusive benefits of this renowned hotel chain.

Paving in Santa Teresa

The main road connecting Cobano with Santa Teresa and Mal Pais has been fully paved, significantly improving ground access to these destinations. This project includes 13 kilometers (8 mi) of asphalt laid on key routes leading to popular tourist areas such as Santa Teresa, Mal Pais, Montezuma, and Cabuya.

Thanks to this improvement, access to Nantipa Hotel is now completely paved right up to the entrance, streamlining traffic flow and enhancing the arrival experience for guests. Travel time between Cobano and Santa Teresa has also been reduced from 40 minutes to just 20, benefiting both visitors and local transport providers.

Tourism entrepreneurs welcomed the project, noting that the paving resolves long-standing issues such as dust, potholes, and difficult access during the rainy season. It has also improved the area’s overall image and supports continued tourism development.

New Restaurant at Hacienda Guachipelin: Rancho de Don Elias

Located at Hacienda Guachipelin, at the foot of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, Rancho de Don Elias offers an immersive Costa Rican cultural and culinary experience. This open-air ranch, surrounded by lush tropical landscapes, blends Guanacaste’s rural traditions with modern comfort.

The restaurant serves buffet-style lunches featuring a delicious selection of traditional Costa Rican dishes. Live marimba music creates a joyful and authentic atmosphere. With a capacity to host up to 216 guests, this venue is ideal for corporate incentives, wedding receptions, group dinners, sunset cocktails, and private events.

Lapa Rios Lodge: Room Category Update

Due to the natural growth of the forest surrounding Deluxe Bungalows 10 and 11, the direct view of the Golfo Dulce from these units has been partially obscured by vegetation. While both rooms still offer views of the gulf, they are more limited compared to other units in the same category.

As a result, these two rooms have been reclassified under a new category: Forest View Bungalows. Despite the change in name, they retain the same rate as the Deluxe Bungalows, ensuring guests continue to receive excellent value for their stay. The two rooms are located side by side, making them an ideal option for families or groups who wish to stay close together while enjoying separate spaces. One unit features a King bed, while the other offers two Queen beds.

In summary, the Deluxe Bungalow category at Lapa Rios Lodge has been divided into two subcategories: Forest View Bungalow, and Deluxe Bungalow Ocean View – thanks to this new classification, it is now guaranteed that all units in this category offer ocean views.

Mawamba Lodge: Access via Rio Danta and Operations Dock

Caño Sirena is located approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from Guapiles. Operating schedules remain unchanged.

The boat transfer from Caño Sirena to Mawamba Lodge takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes and is carried out under established regulations aimed at protecting wildlife and water resources.

Key regulations

  • Maximum capacity of 20 people per boat, including staff.
  • The journey offers a scenic and enriching experience.
  • The dock is equipped with a covered rancho, tables, chairs, and restrooms.

Access and transportation

  • Guests traveling in private vehicles must leave their cars at Rio Danta, from where they will continue the journey on the hotel’s buses. Vehicles may not be left at Caño Sirena.
  • Travel agencies and private transportation units are encouraged to meet the hotel buses at Rio Danta to continue the journey together. However, they may also arrive directly at the site using the Waze location provided by the hotel.
  • The hotel’s buses are accompanied by private security during the transfer.

Reopening of Poas Volcano National Park to Tourism

After being closed for several months due to increased volcanic activity, Poas Volcano National Park reopened to visitors on July 30, following reports from scientific authorities confirming a decrease in activity.

As part of the safety measures, informational and preventive signs have been installed in the park’s ballistic shelters. These signs, available in both Spanish and English, warn of potential risks such as falling rocks, ash, and toxic gases, and provide instructions on how to act in case of an emergency.
