San Gerardo de Dota & Perez Zeledon San Gerardo De Dota

About the hotel

This ideal place for birdwatchers and nature lovers is located in San Gerardo de Dota, near Cerro de la Muerte, one of Costa Rica´s highest peaks, approximately 60 miles Southeast of San Jose (a two-hour drive). At an altitude of 7000 ft (2200 mts) above sea level, the property is surrounded by a private cloud forest. The clean Savegre River runs through the property and furnishes potable water to the area.

In addition, the river hosts a large population of Rainbow trouts. The lodge features 22 wooden STD rooms spread along the property, in 12 modules of two rooms each (duplex), and one Superior room perched on a hill offering a nice view of the forest. All rooms have heating units, specially necessary on this region’s chilly nights, and a porch overlooking the forest. The family style restaurant offers a combination of local and international cuisine.

A favorite dish is the fresh trout, raised and caught from the trout pond at the lodge. Special menus for guests with any dietary restriction or for groups can also be arranged. Guests can also have lunch in Kahawa Restaurant, a coffee house and restaurant located in the small town of San Gerardo de Dota, just 300 meters away from the primary school. During the stay, guests can enjoy one of the different daily tours available.

For example, they can take a morning walk with the resident guide in search of the Resplendent Quetzals, horse ride along the trails to reach a beautiful waterfall or slide from one platform to the next along the private reserve’s canopy tour. Other facilities are: conference room for approximately 20 people with wireless internet access, souvenir shop and a cozy bar with television, comfortable couches and a pull table.
