According to the information received from the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) there are about 23 new lodging projects, which are under construction or have the approved permits, and they will add about 2,444 rooms to the lodging offer of the country. Additionally, all these new hotels have approved the tourism declaration from ICT.
The 23 new hotels can be considered a significant amount of projects but the Costa Rican Chamber of Construction (CCC) in one of its reports said that the hotel construction for 2014 has been "moderate", however, it is important to mention that the current trend is to develop smaller hotels with less rooms.
The new Tourism Minister explained that the construction of hotels will not stop in the country, the number of tourists is increasing and there are possibilities of having new airlines and more flights arriving to Costa Rica.
The report from ICT indicates that Guanacaste is the province with more new hotels (eight projects), followed by San Jose with six buildings, and Puntarenas with five.
