The arrival of new airlines, the implementation of more routes and increased frequency of flights, announced in 2014 and the last months of 2015, will offer about 9,600 seats available per week for tourists to travel to Costa Rica.
According to the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) over the past 20 months, six airlines announced the start of operations in the country, nine included new routes and six increased their flight frequencies.
It is expected that more than 30,000 passengers per year will be mobilized with the arrival of British Airways to Costa Rica next year.
In addition to British, other airlines that 'shake hands' with the country recently are Cubana, Volaris, Tui Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines. On the other hand, airlines like Spirit Airlines, United Airlines, Avianca, WestJet, Aeromexico and JetBlue are offering new routes or increasing their frequencies to Costa Rica.
These cases demonstrate the Government's interest to attract more airlines and now they are concentrating efforts to look for South American companies.
