About this activity

This refuge has 17kms of trails with various levels of difficulty, ranging from low to high, that cross the forest and take the visitor to lookout points and ponds. For those who enjoy trekking, La Marta is a special place because the most difficult trails allow them to perform this activity while surrounded by the beauty of nature. You will have a chance to get into the natural pools and small waterfalls on the hike, amazing nature, birds, and look out points will be the highlight of your hike.

Through the La Marta trail, and after a 4 km walk, the visitor can reach La Mina viewpoint. There, visitors will enjoy the views of the valley and its many shades of green. Located on the top of the La Mina peek, formerly a carbide mine, it consists on a roof topped wood platform 6 meters high, where the refuge, the volcanic central range and the Turrialba volcano can be seen. If you are a thrill lover, cross the Marta river on a small cable ferry, to continue to the other side of the river, on Las Margaritas trail. Enjoy the experience of crossing the river with a beautiful view! The Refuge has roofed camping areas, equipped with drinking water, showers, grill, toilets and trails to easily access the river.
