Breakfast in the hotel. Private ground transfer to the Caribbean Coast.

The fascinating Afro–Caribbean culture, a combination of Jamaican, Italian and Chinese immigrants, predominates in this region and fills the atmosphere with fragrances, tropical rhythms and brilliant colors, which mixes with the daily work of many of the inhabitants on the banana plantations and the ports of Limon and Moin.

Along this area you can observe small groups of houses among the plantations of cassava, annatto and bananas, as well as a vast number of beautiful beaches on the southern part of the coast, coral reefs, and protected areas with small trails which permit the access into the heart of the tropical forest.

In the Costa Rican Caribbean the options are so varied that they satisfy plenty of different tastes and interests of those who visit it, while experiencing the wonders of the swamps, the marine wealth, green lagoons, imposing rivers, wide canals, and exotic beaches. For those who love fishing, diving, surfing and snorkeling, this place is undoubtedly an earthly paradise.

Day 03: Playa Cocles back to top

Breakfast in the hotel.

Visit to Cahuita National Parc and Puerto Vargas Beach.

Cahuita is the largest town in the South of Limon province. A four mile natural trail leads from Cahuita to Puerto Vargas, beyond Cahuita Point. The walk takes about two hours, but hikers will definitely want to stop frequently for a swim in warm Caribbean waters, to gape at the howler monkeys in the trees top high overhead or to focus their binoculars on a Green Ibis or a Rufous kingfisher.

The National Park was created to protect one of the last living reefs in Costa Rica. Unfortunately, sedimentation from expanding banana plantations, deforestation in the Talamanca Mountains and the last earthquake have killed much of the coral reefs near the shore. Snorkelers can try their luck near Cahuita Point or Puerto Vargas.
