Masquerade ParadeWith the aim to promote a message of peace through public artworks the GPO Vallas y Gigantografías company and the Municipality of San José, created a project in which 70 giant pigeons will decorate different places of the capital city. The sculptures also will be one of the major attractions of Costa Rica in the urban zone.

Love, tolerance, harmony, nature respect, solidarity, freedom and peace are some of the messages carried by the colorful giants in the main public places in San Jose downtown, which is visited by thousands of local and foreign people, because no matter if they come to the country through any Costa Rica adventure travel packages or through the best travel deals to Costa Rica, they will never leave it without visiting San José.

The project “Peace Parade” is in its final stage. At present  20 visual artists and 50 schools work with the pigeons, to be ready for a colorful and happy Parade by avenues, parks and squares of San José on next December 15.

The sculptures measure 1.40 meters long, 1.10 meters wide and 2.30 meters high. All of them were made in fiberglass by the Costa Rican sculptor Alben Monteil for this exciting project which rescues important values of Costa Rica culture and people.

The artist Julio Cesar Valverde works hardly in four pigeons. One of his works is inspired in the message of Peace begins with a smile. "I think in the middle of violence a smile can make a difference and besides, it costs nothing, it's free ", the artist said to the newspaper La Nacion.

Schools, colleges, universities and even a non-governmental organization, which serves the prison population, also participate in this project.

20% of the total money raised from the sponsorships will be donated to 10 schools with serious infrastructure problems. Prices of giant pigeons are $12,500 (designed by the schools) and $20,000 (designed by the artists). For more information call 2231-4579, or enter www.peaceparade.net.
