This wildlife area has been created to protect the flora and fauna, as well as to carry out scientific studies and educational environmental programs. Within its borders 400 species of birds, including the Resplendent Quetzal, 490 species of butterflies, 100 of mammals, 2,500 of plants and 200 of ferns have been identified. Monteverde is known as one of the most important cloud forest of the world.

Selvatura Park
Selvatura Park

Visitors can glide along the zip lines through the cloud forest on the canopy tour or take the treetop walkways consisting of a 1.9 mile trail and eight different bridges. The park also has a butterfly garden and a hummingbird garden. There is also an a large private insect collection, property of world famous entomologist Dr. Richard Whitten and a Reptile and Amphibian Exhibition.
 
Sky Walk and Sky Trek
Sky Trek Monteverde

The Sky Walk allows visitors to safely appreciate the rich diversity of the canopy flora and fauna. It is a combination of 2.5 kilometers of trails and six suspension bridges. Sky Trek is a system of walking trails, zip lines and two observation towers. The Serpentarium is an amphibian and reptile exhibit that opens every day and offers guided tours every half an hour.
 
Trapiche Tour
Trapiche Tour

This two-hour guided tour consists of a visit to the “trapiche” (sugar cane mill), owned and operated by a Costa Rican family. Visitors will be able to observe how sugar cane is processed, walk through the plantations and taste its varied products. An explanation about coffee, bananas and other crops is included during this excursion.
