According to Jacques Lanusse-Cazalé, Costa Rica’s coordinator of the event, monohulls Virbac Papre 3 and Hugo Boss were the ones who took the risk and dared to go through the worst part of the storm in the Atlantic. Thanks to their effort they will be the firsts to arrive to Limón’s port and among them will be the Transat-Jacques Vabre winner. Even if it took three or four days more according to the day planned, the braveness of these sailors is recognized, and Limón expects the first arrivals this Thursday 17th at night, or the next day in the morning. Only 21, of the 35 sailors that started the race are still on competition, since 14 of them retired when they fronted with the bad weather on the Atlantic waters. However, those two sailboats (Virbac Papre 3 and Hugo Boss) were among the few that decided to go through the worst of the storm and did more than fine, thanks to the strong winds giving them impetus. The Virbac Papre 3 is the leader, with the French Jean-Pierre Dick and Jérémie Beyou, it was yesterday only 404 nautical miles away from Limón (747 km). This monohull has stood out and is becoming the favorite to dethrone the last year’s winner, multihull Wahou, which was manned by Frank Yves Escoffier and Erwan Leroux and lasted 15 days, 15 hours 31 minutes and 51 seconds of navigation. Next comes Hugo Boss, manned by Alex Thomson and Steward Hosford, which was 549 nautical miles away. Two days ago, the Actual sailboat seemed to be fighting the Virbac Papre 3 and the Hugo Boss for leadership, but eventually lost momentum. As a multihull, has to meet a different route than monohulls when being admitted to the Caribbean. “The duel between Virbac and Hugo Boss is very even and is difficult to predict”, said Jacques Lanusse. Take a last minute travel deal to Costa Rica to enjoy the end of this race and along with it the beauty of the best attractions in Costa Rica like Limón.
