Transat boatsLimon, the seventh province of Costa Rica, will host the World tour Trans-Atlantic sailboats race for the second time in a row. This is by far, one of the best attractions in the Caribbean in 2011.

The competition will start at France on October 30th, and will have 72 navigators distributed in 36 ships from different European countries, plus, the United States and Canada.

The boats will leave port Le Havre in France, crossing 4730 nautical miles thru the Atlantic, and the winner will be whoever gets to the Limon port first in a period of 16 days.

"The winner of the race in the monohull category will receive € 150 000 (over ¢105 million), the multihull € 50 000 (over ¢ 35 million); and the Class-40 category will receive € 30 000 (more ¢ 21 million), "said Jacques Lanusse, coordinator of the Transat in Costa Rica.

The competition has three different categories, monohull, the multihull and the Class-40. Those 36 sailboats are ready to go, and will have two commanders in chiefs to guide them; plus, two helpers each.

The idea of Lanusse is that the first boat arrives on November 12th, where people from Limon will be waiting for the participants with carnival music and many stuff from their culture.

Also, they expect the sailors to stay and find a lot of things to do in Costa Rica while they hang out at Limon.

"This is an event that places the province of Limon in the eyes of the world and demonstrates the organizational capacity we have in the province in coordination with the Municipality and others," said Danny Morris, manager JAPDEVA Port Authority, who also noted that the Caribbean city will be promoted as a tourist destination worldwide.

The Transat Jacques Vabre crossed the Atlantic every two years and Costa Rica will host the competition for the second time, after it did in 2009.
