black of its sands, and visiting the mountainous area in front of
the Cahuita National Park, combine the sun and sea with the flora
and fauna of the tropical rain forest. Includes snack and riding
equipment. Long pants, hat, insect repellent and sun tan lotion
are a must.
Diving in
Manzanillo:
One of the places most sought after by divers from all over the
world is undoubtedly Manzanillo, known for the rich marine life
of its waters and for its scenic beauty. Prepare yourself for an
experience full of encounters with tropical species of the waters
of the Atlantic Ocean. Includes two oxygen tanks, mask, buoyancy
jacket, and snack.
Among the
full day activities standout:
 |
Snorkeling
in the coral reefs and Cahuita National Park:
This takes place on a boat with a glass bottom and the capacity
for a maximum of eight persons, in the area near the Cahuita
National Park, the only place in the world with living ecosystems
of sea and land in every square meter of its formation. Includes
snack, entrance, snorkeling equipment, and lunch. It is recommended
that you take sandals, hat, sun tan lotion and insect repellent. |
In search
of dolphins:
This exciting adventure always depends upon the conditions of the
climate, the tides and, of course, a bit of good luck. Board a rustic
canoe and sail across the crystalline waters near the coast, along
solitary and unexplored beaches. The dolphins Tucuxi (Sotalia Fluviatilis)
have been seen and identified along the southern part of the Atlantic
coast. Spotting these friendly animals is frequent, nevertheless,
there is no assurance they will be sighted. Includes snack.
Cahuita and Puerto Vargas National Park:
The largest town in the South of Limon is Cahuita. A four mile
natural trail leads from Cahuita to Puerto Vargas, beyond Cahuita
Point. The walk takes about two hours, but hikers will definitely
want to stop frequently for a picnic, for a swim in warm Caribbean
waters, to gape at the Howler Monkeys in the tree top high overhead
or to focus their binoculars on a Green Ibis of Green and Rufous
King fisher. The National Park was formed to protect one of
the last living reefs in Costa Rica. Unfortunately, sedimentation
from expanding banana plantations and deforestation in the Talamanca
Mountains and the last earthquake have killed much of the reef
close to the shore. Snorkelers can try their luck near Cahuita
Point or Puerto Vargas. In these waters scientists have counted
35 species of coral, including elk horn, brain coral and Venus
sea fan, and 123 species of tropical fish. Snorkeling equipment
is available.
